Huawei Mate 9 review

Huawei Mate 9 seems to be a mixture of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and iPhone 7 along with some new perks. It is a huge screened device which consists of the most recent and impressive chipset from Huawei. In spite of that it is quite user-friendly like the iPhone. It has an excellent camera and a remarkable battery life. Huawei wants to move from the third biggest manufacturer to the second biggest by at least 2018.

Sam Murray, UK mobile phone blogger was lucky enough to review the device at the launch event, he said: The Huawei Mate 9 is a great replacement for anyone who purchased, or was close to purchasing the Galaxy Note 7. Whilst perhaps not as good a phone, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be an exploding one so I’d say it’s more than a viable replacement. I generally prefer stock Android but EMUI 5.0 is fun to use and you get tonnes of cool features. Like a solid camera and a gorgeous screen for taking in media on the move. Factor in smooth performance and impressive battery life and you’ve got a pricey but premium device. A+ from me.

Price and Release Date:

There is a massive leap in the price of the new Huawei Mate 9, as the price of Mate 8 was €599, but the price released for Mate 9 is €699 which is approximately £620, $775 and AU$1,000.  It is expected to be released by the end of November 2016.

Main Features:

It is confirmed that Huawei Mate 9 would be Daydream ready.  It would get faster with time due to its Machine Learning Algorithm capability. Although we were not able to test Huawei Mate 9 with Daydream, but it seems like the phone is quite fast due to its great processor. We are assuming that it won’t be as good for VR as Pixel XL with Daydream or like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a Gear VR as it does not come with 2K display. The Mate 9 offers even more than 1,000 numerous functions that could be improved.

Design:

The Mate 9 looks more or less like its predecessor M8. It looks quite superior due to its full metal uni-body. It is much easier to hold than the M8 due to its slightly curved edges at the front and the back. Its size is almost the same as iPhone 7 Plus as it measures 157 x 79 x 7.9mm. Its bezels are not as thick as iPhone 7 Plus due to which its screen size is more than the iPhone 7. It offers a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. There are two speakers at the bottom corner of the phone. On each side of the phone there is a USB-C slot. You can easily listen to the music even if the phone is in the pocket due to its 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top right corner. You would find the power button on the edge of the right side of the phone which won’t be used quite often if you are using the fingerprint scanner. It has a Full HD screen which is a little disappointing for Huawei fans as they were hoping for a QHD panel. It also features an auto-brightness mode and its viewing angles are quite remarkable.

Conclusion:

It is an impressive and durable phone with fast processor, excellent camera and outstanding battery life. The only drawback is its huge price tag as we were not expecting it to be that expensive.
