Top 10: smartphones with the highest and lowest radiation
Many people ask the horrifying yet important question: do mobile phones have the tendency to cause cancer? – Are they completely safe or there is ‘radiation poisoning’ involved?
The answer is both yes and no. Yes, the mobile phones are quite safe but no they are not 100% safe. There are outlandish theories as to the harmful effects of owning a mobile phone, they are simply not true. However, it is not that there is zero radiation involved.
Dr Olga Naidenko of EWG (Environmental Working Group) says,
”We would like to be able to say that cell phones are safe,” he adds, “But we can’t. The most recent science, while not conclusive, raises serious issues about the cancer risk of cell phone use that must be addressed through further research.”
I personally believe that just like food and other consumables are listed with ingredients, mobile phones must publically display their radiation levels.
This is a very little-talked-about topic in the tech industry and you won’t find much material on it. In order to help you, we have created this highly detailed article that gives the level of SAR radiation that is emitted by your favourite cell phone brands.
What is SAR radiation?
Before we move onto the statistics, I would like you to indulge me for a bit. I want to talk about SAR radiation.
SAR means “Specific Absorption Rate”. It is a unit of measurement of the rate by which a human body absorbs energy emitted by RF (Radio Frequency).
In simpler words, SAR is a number of dangerous rays you get when your body collides with RF waves – that are everywhere!
Mobile phones with the highest SAR radiation:
Connect is a German monthly publication about technology and smartphones. Recently they conducted a research based on mobile phone models since 1993. Here is their startling findings;
· Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 5.5 SAR level: 1.631
· Huawei Ascend Mate 7 SAR level: 1.54
· Honor 8 SAR level: 1.5
· Apple iPhone 7 SAR level: 1.38
· Gigaset ME Pro SAR level: 1.3
· ZTE Blade S6 SAR level: 1.29
· Apple iPhone 7 Plus SAR level: 1.24
· Huawei Mate 8 SAR level: 1.18
· Google Nexus 6P SAR level: 1.17
· Apple iPhone SE-SAR level: 1.17
So, we can conclude that Alcatel, Huawei and Apple produce smartphones with high SAR levels.
Mobile phones with the lowest SAR radiation:
· Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus SAR level: 0.216
· Meizu Pro 5 SAR level: 0.217
· Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SAR level: 0.241
· BQ Aquaria X5 Plus SAR level: 0.253
· Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge SAR level: 0.264
· Honor 6 Plus SAR level: 0.284
· Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) SAR level: 0.286
· Wiko U Feel SAR level: 0.287
· Fairphone FP2 SAR level: 0.288
· Xiaomi Mi 5 SAR level: 0.328
How ironic that the exploding phone that caused many injuries and warranted a call back from manufacturers, is the smartphone with lowest SAR radiation level.
I would also like to add that there is no regulation over SAR radiation poisoning. There should be. Perhaps it is because the scientists don’t think SAR radiation is actually that dangerous.
Or the more disturbing and likely fact could be that mobile manufacturing corporate giants do not want SAR radiation to become an “issue” in their production.
What do you reckon? Let us know in the comment section below.
